Abstract: There is a growing recognition of the importance of gender issues in European funding programs and a need to go beyond simple quotas. This women’s event will feature short presentations and workshops aimed at better understanding and integrating gender considerations. The EU and UK funded CLASCO Project (https://clasco-project.eu/) with its consortium member Prof. Gesa Beck (SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences & ABCircular) will serve as a technical example project.
Program:
1. Impulse Pitch: Prof. Gertraud (Turu) Stadler (Charité Berlin).
Topic: Gender research in medicine – an overview of the current state (with examples in medication and medical treatments).
Discussion – What can we learn from it for Materials Science and Engineering?
2. Pitch: Prof. Gesa Beck (Berlin University of Applied Sciences & ABCircular).
Topic: Gender dimensions and occupational safety with the example of the CLASCO Project.
The impact on gender aspects of an emerging technology will be described based on the life cycle perspective. Especially working conditions will be highlighted, such as exposure to chemicals, noise and heavy work, on female biology. The importance of promoting gender equality within project teams to foster a more inclusive and effective work environment will be emphasized.
Workshop – Experiences in working environments.
This workshop will focus on collecting and analyzing participants' personal experiences in different work environments. The goal is to gather key points and develop actionable recommendations to improve working conditions and ensure a more supportive and equitable workplace for all.
3. Pitch: Prof. Gesa Beck (Berlin University of Applied Sciences & ABCircular).
Topic: EU project monitoring and gender issues.
Drawing on her extensive experience as an EU project monitor, Prof. Beck will discuss the importance of gender aspects mandated by the EU and other funding bodies such as the Volkswagen Foundation and the BMBF. She will share insights from projects involving chemicals and address gender issues related to organizational structures, emphasizing the need for gender considerations in different organizational contexts.
Workshop – Understanding organizational structures in funded projects.
Participants will explore the complexities of organizational structures, both formal and informal, in EU funded companies and projects. The workshop aims to identify the most relevant issues for the field and outline specific recommendations for action to improve project work.
